Detailed description of project
SCARLETT is a 36-month research project aiming to develop an open-source platform for the secure sharing and trading of Smart City data through common data spaces.
The platform will integrate mechanisms for secure data exchange, privacy protection, decentralised federation governance, assessment of data and provider reliability, and data pricing and fair value sharing. It will also utilise Artificial Intelligence, IoT, DLT/Blockchain and federated learning, supporting interoperability and the computing continuum from IoT devices to the cloud.
SCARLETT will demonstrate its functionality through three Smart City applications combining data from sensors, telematics systems and external sources.
The applications focus on smart waste management and collection, smart parking, and road safety at pedestrian crossings, with an emphasis on secure data utilisation and analysis and the protection of privacy.
Type and scope of work provided
- Privacy Mechanisms: Developing privacy mechanisms and policies, privacy-enhancing technologies and a consent-management mechanism.
- Smart Waste Management: Developing a smart waste-collection application using IoT data and predictive models to support dynamic routing.
- Smart Parking: Contributing to the development of a smart-parking application and the use of sensor data to monitor and predict parking-space availability.
- Road Safety: Developing an application for road safety at pedestrian crossings by combining traffic, environmental and meteorological data.
- Pilot Testing: Designing the pilot-testing plan and contributing to the installation, testing and evaluation of the applications.
- Research & IPR: Coordinating research excellence and exploitation activities, including the patent application and the intellectual-property management plan.
SCARLETT is implemented under the “Research – Innovate” Action, Intervention II “Partnerships between Enterprises and Research Organisations”.
