The contribution of Social Media to crisis management (COSMIC) of the project will identify the most effective ways to leverage new information and communication technologies (ICT) in crisis situations to protect ordinary citizens. They will ensure better interfaces between prevention, detection, reporting and rescue in crisis situations to help officers and rescuers (i.e. police and law enforcement, search and rescue and medical staff) with the use of new ICTs and applications to make them more effective and efficient during crises.

DOTSOFT and HRT have set up a joint R&D team to participate in this project (DOTSOFT as a subcontractor of HRT). DOTSOFT and HRT collaborated and contributed to all Work Packages and more specifically to Crisis Mapping and the use of today’s technologies in crisis, the elaboration of case studies, the mapping of the use of emerging applications and emergency communication by the public.
