CULDILE – CULTURAL DIMENSIONS OF DEEP LEARNING

Detailed description of project

In this project, a comprehensive, experienced system of capturing software and understanding of cultural presumptions will be developed. Capturing and pre-processing the image as it comes from a low-cost scanner is the first stage of document processing to improve their quality and create an excellent digital copy. Improving the quality of the document, in addition, is a particularly important stage because it helps to the success of the next stages of processing, such as partitioning and recognition, and it is necessary because of the particular problems of quality and appearance of the historical documents. Recognition and fragmentation are key stages of understanding and lead to experienced documentation assistance. The hint and identification of repetitive elements such as: archegram, tribute note, typographical jewellery, honorary jewellery, thumbnails, character families, titles, tables of contents and indexes, etc., as well as the existence of specific keywords that characterise the content of documents or parts thereof, will be automated. Thus, one ‘unique’ application (software) will be achieved to assist the scientific documentation of cultural evidence. The first part (capturing) emphasis will be placed on the use of affordable scanning devices, in combination with the development/ transformation of Honest Partners’ existing HDOC+ document image processing platform. In the field of assisted documentation we focus on the development of state of the art methodologies of neural networks in order to create the experienced assistance of the user and at the same time to assist him visually in order to have the optimal and accurate simultaneous visual experience of the pages of the presumption and the corresponding documentation and web based. System results (images, documentation) will be imported and managed through open source repositories.

– Development of online application for documenting and managing -through HTML5- digital documentation and transcription
– Enrichment of online application with documentation analysis and data visualisation modules
– Formulation of Marketing Strategy and Action Plan
– Drafting of Feasibility Study for market and product exploitation and dissemination
